Good Mental Health Is Ageless

When it comes to aging, we are all beginners. Aging requires us to come to terms with the transitions that this season brings. We do best when we learn to accept the things we can’t change and focus on the things over which we have control. Successful aging can bring unexpected joys and experiences that we never anticipated. Research shows that people with positive perceptions of aging actually live longer – on average 7 years longer.

Growing older is an accomplishment. As older adults, we are the rich heirs of a wealth of experience, knowledge, history and survival. Older adults are resilient and courageous and our courage in later life has a lot to do with letting go. As we navigate the passage of years we benefit from the care and guidance of others. Even while allowing others to help care for us we have many lessons to teach those who are willing to listen.
